Dnyaneshwari in Marathi 1.0

The Dnyaneshwari, also known as Jñaneshwari, is a 13th-century commentary on the Bhagavad Gita authored by the Marathi saint and poet Dnyaneshwar when he was just 16 years old. This commentary has garnered acclaim for both its aesthetic and scholarly merit. Originally named Bhavarth Deepika, which roughly translates to "The light showing the internal meaning" of the Bhagvad Geeta, it is commonly referred to as Dnyaneshwari after its creator.

The Dnyaneshwari serves as the philosophical cornerstone of the Bhagawata Dharma, a Bhakti sect that left a lasting impact on the history of Maharashtra. Regarded as one of the sacred texts (the Prasthanatrai of Bhagawata Dharma) alongside Ekanathi Bhagawata and Tukaram Gaathaa, it forms a pivotal part of Marathi language and literature, continuing to be extensively read in Maharashtra. The Pasayadan, the nine concluding verses of the Dnyaaneshwari, are also widely popular.

According to Vaishnava belief, the Bhagavad Gita stands as the ultimate declaration of spiritual knowledge due to its proclamation by Lord Krishna, an Avatar of Vishnu. The Dnyaneshwari is perceived to transcend being merely a commentary on the Bhagavad Gita because it was penned by Dnyaneshwar, venerated as a saint. It offers more accessible and eloquent elucidations on the teachings in the Bhagavad-Gita with the purpose of refining people's conduct. Despite its composition dating back to around 1290 A.D., which renders comprehending its concepts challenging in contemporary times due to its archaic text, numerous publications have made it available in both simplified and original formats.
